The fourth industrial revolution, when digital production unites industry and digital technologies, has become a reality. People manage production with the help of digital technologies and the Internet, so traditional education techniques are already insufficient. Within SUSU’s project-based learning, the Department of Automated Electric Drive of the Faculty of Energy and Power Engineering of the Institute of Engineering and Technology trains students in technologies of managing smart electric drives at modern factories.
Starting from May of 2018, in the frameworks of project-based learning, students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at SUSU ISSH’s Faculty of Journalism are taking part in an international journalism project called EUfactcheck, organised by the European Journalism Training Association. The purpose of the project is to check information, organise fact checking and teach this process to the new generation of journalists.
Besides high levels of professionalism, lawyers working in the Russian system also need such traits as high resistance to stress and readiness to work in unusual situations. Within the project-based learning system, future lawyers at SUSU are working on a project which has no analogues in modern legal practice. In the course of the project, students will develop a model for supporting the professional rights of lawyers.
One of the key projects in the project-based learning offered by the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service (ISTiS) is called Sustainable Development of Tourism in the Ural Region. Today the network of travel itineraries across South Ural is being expanded, and foreign specialists are being engaged by SUSU to the develop tourism in our region.

On December 10, 2018 at 10:30 a presentation on launching of Digital History of SUSU project will be held at the Science and Technology of the Southern Ural Exhibition Centre (Room 018 of the Main University Building) as part of the of celebrations on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the university.
In the period from 28 to 30 November, Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism and Socio-Cultural Service, Candidate of Sciences (Pedagogy) of the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism and ServiceYulia Syromyatnikova took part in the workshop on sustainable energy and climate change in Russia. The event was organised by Nottingham Trent University and the Altai State University.

The process of project-based learning in the sphere of Researching the Longevity of Concrete in Reinforced Concrete Structures under Repeated Exposure has successfully started at the Department of Building Materials and Products of the SUSU Institute of Architecture and Construction. There are six master’s degree students of specialisation 08.04.01 Construction involved in the project.

In a time like this, the role of qualitative journalism especially increases. Today, it is necessary to improve the level of trust to new media and impart the skills of fact checking to journalists. This is especially important for assessment of political statements’ accuracy.
Today, art spaces are moving more and more towards virtual spaces. Many museums in Russia and around the world have their own virtual twins. Of special note are literary museums. Without leaving your apartment, you can visit museums dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov, Marina Tsvetaeva, and many other authors. In 2018 our university also joined the process of creating such virtual memorial house museums, as part of a focus on project-based learning.
Each of the SUSU schools or institutes is engaged in project-based education today. The value of such approach to training is that along with theory the future professionals could obtain certain practical skills, which s/he could directly apply in production while joining the process of work. As much as seven Master’s students are involved in the project by the SUSU School of Medical Biology, who travel to test fields, do experiments and analyse their results.

The Institute of Supplementary Education is beginning professional training courses for specialists of KONAR Industrial Group, one of the leading international manufacturers in complex engineering and production of complex metal constructions.
Specialists of the company, CNC machine servicemen, will learn the basics of hydraulics, tribology, electric drives, CNC measuring systems, and the basics of advanced programming language.
Within the frameworks of opening project-based Master’s programme at the Institute of Architecture and Construction a meeting was organised for the students of the 3rd and 4th years of study and the representatives of the SUSU partner, OJSC Chelyabtyazhmashproekt Design Institute, being part of PSO KURS, LLC Group of Companies, as well as of NormaSOFT, LLC company.
In the 2018–2019 academic year South Ural State University has introduced project-based learning — a new educational technology, which will take the training of specialists to an even higher level. In 2018–2019, the program of project-based education has been officially launched at South Ural State University. However, this educational technology has already been implementing in a number of university’s subdivisions for many years. In particular, SUSU students have been working on construction of race cars since 2012 in the frameworks of Formula Student engineering competition among university students, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), which nowadays includes 570 teams representing higher education institutions from around the world.
